The Elks Lodge in Oceanside is an old fraternal organization. The Elks were founded in 1868. The original members were actors in New York. New York had laws about drinking and when bars could open and should be closed. Actors worked evenings and nights – they needed a place to go after work and unwind.
The original name was the "Jolly Corks". Soon after they started one of their members died leaving a dependent wife with no means to support herself. They other members took up a collection and provided a pension for the young widow. This was their first official charitable act.
The Elks were at a peak after World War two. Even today many of the members are former military. The lodge has gone through peaks and valleys over the years. Today the lodge is starting to attract a younger member and rebounding from the thinning ranks of these War vets.
The Elks are involved in a wide range of charitable activities. They send packages to deployed vets, they sponsor basketball contests, and give money to a number of other organizations. Recently they had a joint meeting with the American Legion.
The sign was for the podium and was a vinyl mounted on a PVC substrate. These materials are great for indoor signs.
At Signs for San Diego we make a lot of signs for interior use:
- Station signs for work stations, specific rooms, directions, instructions for machines, and other small signs
- Banners for promotions, grand openings, opening soon, sales, seasonal events.
- Outdoor signs for businesses and buildings. We do a lot of company names and logos on the sides on buildings, windows, above doors and such.
We were pleased to be a small part of the Elk’s Lodge’s efforts
