Neon Signs: What happened?

The word “Neon” means different things to people. Now for the nerdy stuff: Neon was discovered in 1898. Neon, along with helium, argon, krypton and xenon, are noble gases. They are the most stable and least reactive elements. In chemistry, an atoms want to take or give an electron is its reactivness. These noble gases are perfectly happy have full valence shells  and have no need to react at all. Neon conducts electricity and lights when current is applied.

Are you luck enough to have a Pylon Sign?

A Pylon signs are controversial.These are tall signs on poles. Often these are the first signs put up in In under developed areas, and areas visible from highways. Pylon signs are common for gas stations, malls and shopping centers. As the area develops and grows, these signs are often limited or eliminated. Cities often consider this type of sign a visual form of pollution. Cities are using the zoning laws to change character of the neighborhood. In most Coastal cities these are not permit-able as a new sign. However, they are effective and if you are lucky enough to have an existing (likely older) pylon sign, you have an advertising machine.

Channel Letters for a Business on the move

What happens when a company moves ¼ mile away? It can mean a huge loss of customers. Evans Tire made such a move. The new place is a better location, closer to El Camino Real, more visible and bigger. But customers remember the old location. They buy tires on a multi year bases. The old location worked and “muscle memory” takes past customers back to the old location. This makes it signage and very visible signage extremely important. Customers remember where a company is. When a company changes locations, signage becomes a key issue. We were very happy to help Evans with their move.
