Monument Signs for Shopping Centers

Signs for San Diego, a Commercial Sign Company builds Monument Signs in San Marcos. We manufacture business signs or custom led signs sometimes called custom metal signs. We purchase raw aluminum square tubes, angle, and sheet. We cnc route and sheets and weld to build up the frame and shell. We then paint the monument with state-of-the-art Matthew’s Paint System. Faces for the monuments are also 100% inhouse with Acrylic, vinyl, and other materials. These are LED back lit, and we make a lot of these types on Monument Signs. They are in shopping malls from Laguna to the Mexican Border. But this is only a single type of Monument, there are a lot of others. Let’s look at shopping center monuments first and then see others. Monument Sign for Shopping Centers

The term “Monument Sign” is not in the dictionary. It is a sign industry term, and most people don’t know exactly what it is. Like most industries, the sign industry has its own vocabulary. Sometimes one needs a decoder ring to figure it all out! Here is the industry definition of a Monument Sign.  Here is the definition: Monuments are ground signs that are independent of the building they mark.

Going off on a momentary tangent, what is the difference between a Pole Sign and A Pylon Sign? Pylons are also called pole signs, The difference between a pole sign and a pylon is the pole cover.

What is the difference between a Pylon and a Monument?  Monuments are ground based, and Pylons are in the air If the pole cover hides the space under the sign (you cannot see the poles) it is a monument.  So structurally a Pylon and a Monument are the same sign, but one is generally high up and the other on the ground.

Shopping Center Monuments have a purpose, they take a traffic flow and pull them into the mall to sell goods and services. To do this, they use multiple tenant signs or signs faces on these monuments.

Illuminated Monuments vs Non-illuminated Monuments. All but the smallest retail shopping malls use Illuminated Monuments, these are electrical signs, that attract business after normal business hours. This need is obvious, the customers are shopping in the evenings. Nearly all Shopping Center Monuments are electrical Signs and are backlit.

Monument Sign for Business Parks (AKA Industrial Park Monuments)

Monument Signs are structures marking the location of a building or several buildings. They are always on the ground. They can have tenant faces on them, but more commonly have the Business Park names of them.  They are not commonly electrical signs because the business in industrial parks is done in the daytime and the customers are other businesses.
