There are a lot of sign companies that offer installation of exterior building signs. Most subcontract this to a handful of companies that have the licenses, equipment and expertise to do the job.
What does it take to install these large signs? Well a number of things:
The first is a contractor License and a permit. This is also called a CL-45 (electrical sign installation) . This license is required by most cities to apply for and receive the permit. There are major legal penalties for not getting a permit. So the first thing you should ask for is the Contractor License number and the second is a permit
The second thing is the aerial equipment. This can be rented and often is, but owning the bucket trucks and cranes needed is an excellent sign of the skilled and experience required to do it right. Signs for San Diego owns and runs 2 bucket trucks and a crane.
The last thing is price. Price is often the wrong way to pick an installer. Service, and quality are much more important. The cheapest price is often a sign of the lack of something else (like a contractor’s license)
