Signage Solution: Working with Digital Conventions and the San Diego Convention Center to replace four static signs with four Electronic Message Centers
The San Diego Convention Center dominates the convention and trade show hosting world in San Diego and is the 22nd largest in the country. It is located San Diego Bay in the heart of a vibrant, walkable downtown surrounded by more than 13,500 hotel rooms. The Convention Center has 615,700 sq. ft of exhibit area in configurable halls and can hold up to 135,000 people at a time. Conventions can use a part of or all the space. There are about 90 trade shows and conventions a year; the biggest convention is Comic-Con.
Signs for San Diego manufactured and installed four large cabinets above the main walkway into each section or hall. They were 11’ x 40’, 36’ x 26’, 2’ x 27’, and 4’ x 45’. In other words, huge.
With a large publicly owned project like this one, the LA Certified Fabricator License, is often required. This is a license honored in San Diego and most of California for quality structural welding projects.
Signs for San Diego holds the LA Certified Fabricator’s license along with several other qualifications such as the Underwriters Labs Certification and an electrical sign contractor license. This puts Signs for San Diego in a very small group of sign companies that have these special certifications.
In this case, with literally several million people walking directly below the signs, Signs for San Diego was honored to be trusted by the convention center and the permitting authorities to do this sort of work.
Signs for San Diego took a concept, redesigned for manufacture, fabricated, and installed all the signs. Do you have a project like this? We’d love to work with you.
